Production Process
Manual or Automatic Feeding:
Products are either placed on the conveyor belt manually by an operator or fed automatically, depending on the level of automation in the packaging line. The feeding mechanism aligns products in a continuous sequence for wrapping.
Product Detection and Alignment:
Sensors or mechanical systems detect the product’s position, ensuring that it is aligned correctly for wrapping. This step is crucial for ensuring consistent packaging quality and avoiding misaligned or faulty wraps.
Film Unwinding:
A roll of wrapping film is placed in the machine, and the film is fed into the wrapping section. The film could be stretch film, shrink film, or polyethylene (PE) film, depending on the application and packaging requirements. The machine pulls the film from the roll and positions it over or around the product.
Film Wrapping:
The wrapping film is applied around the product in one of the following ways, depending on the type of wrapping machine:
Stretch Wrapping: The film is stretched and wrapped tightly around the product or pallet. Stretch wrapping is commonly used for securing goods on pallets.
Shrink Wrapping: The film is loosely wrapped around the product and will be shrunk tightly in the next step.
Flow Wrapping (Horizontal Form-Fill-Seal): In flow wrapping, the product is wrapped in film as it moves horizontally through the machine. The film is sealed and cut at both ends, enclosing the product in a bag-like wrap.
During this phase, the wrapping material is consistently tensioned to ensure a smooth, even application of the film.
Heat Sealing:
In many wrapping machines, especially those that use shrink film or flow wrap, heat sealing is employed to create a secure closure. The film is sealed at the edges, ensuring that the product is fully enclosed. L-bar sealers or impulse sealers are often used for this purpose, depending on the machine design and film type.
Pressure Sealing:
In stretch wrapping or some flow wrapping applications, pressure may be used instead of heat to create the seal. This method is common in stretch film machines, where the elasticity of the film holds the wrap in place.
Continuous or Intermittent Sealing:
Depending on the speed and type of packaging line, sealing may occur continuously (for high-speed operations) or intermittently (for smaller batches or delicate products).
